The purpose of Poway Unified School District’s Partners in Education program is to attract, develop, support and sustain strategic relationships among business, community, schools, and programs in order to expand and enrich the educational experiences of our students.
Effective partnerships require a culture that reinforces community involvement. The Partners in Education program recognizes that a well-run program is mutually rewarding for our students, schools, businesses and the community. Through these valuable relationships, students are able to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for success in the 21st century.
Los Peñasquitos Academy
Attending the 2011 Golden Bell Awards Luncheon at the California School Board Association Annual Conference in San Diego were Fran Hjalmarson, counselor; Andy Patapow, PUSD Board of Education Vice President; Kara Fradsham, fifth grade teacher; Kristie Szentesi, third grade teacher; Anthony Bayro, fourth grade teacher; Penny Ranftle, PUSD Board of Education member; Deanna McLaughlin, Los Peñasquitos principal; Dr. John Collins, superintendent; Kristie Szentesi, third grade teacher; and Linda Vanderveen, PUSD Board of Education President.
The Los Peñasquitos Academy is driven by the belief that all students will achieve and the theory of more time for learning. The Academy is a unique 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade magnet program where families choose to have their child attend school for four additional hours each school week and an extra eight days during the summer. The extra time allows for added emphasis on literacy, science, math, and community building. An integral component to the success of our program is a strong emphasis on developing the student as a responsible, respectful person.
