- Early - Postpone Finals Request
- The administration adheres to the following policy for students unable to take final examinations during Finals Week:
- 1. The student presents a note from his/her parent or guardian officially requesting that final examinations be postponed. This note must include specific reasons for this request and should be delivered to Kelly Crandall (Beth Perisic's secretary).
- 2. Kelly Crandall will then prepare the necessary forms that the student will distribute to teachers for their review and signature.
- 3. The student returns the signed paperwork to Nancy Schiffer for Beth Perisic's approval and signature.
- 4. Mrs.Perisic or Mrs. Crandall will notify the student's parent or guardian if the request to postpone finals has been approved. Unless and until you receive that approval, your student is expected to take his/her finals at the assigned time during Finals Week.
- NOTE: If the request to postpone finals is granted, only those students who are NOT returning to Poway High School next year are allowed to take their finals before Finals Week. All other students must take the finals they have missed during the first five weeks of the upcoming Fall semester.
- We appreciate everyone's cooperation with this policy.

Whooping Cough/Pertussis
- The entire state is currently experiencing an epidemic of whooping cough cases which is the common name for pertussis. Whooping cough is a bacterial respiratory illness characterized by severe spasms of coughing that can last for several weeks or even for months. Whooping cough is usually spread from person-to-person through close contact with respiratory droplets released when a person coughs or sneezes. Whooping cough, which gets its name from the noise children make when they gasp for breath between violent coughs, can be deadly in infants under the age of 12 months. It is usually just an annoying illness in older children and adults, although it can turn into bronchitis or other lung infections.
- The best way to prevent the disease is with vaccination. Infants begin receiving this vaccine at two months of age. By the time children reach young adulthood, they no longer have the immunity and require a booster. A vaccine for older children and adults became available in 2005. Parents can protect their infants and children by checking with their health care provider to make sure that all family members’ immunizations are up to date. For the most recent local information or local immunization clinics please go to the County of San Diego Public Health Department’s Immunization website at http://www.sdiz.org| MORE ABOUT PERTUSSIS (Whooping Cough)

Senior Project Presentation Day Needs YOU on Friday, May 25
An exciting tradition at Poway High School continues this year when members of our Senior Class present their Senior Projects on Friday, May 25. These projects, which students have been working on in their English and Social Science classes for the entire school year, have provided them with the opportunity to look beyond high school and to acquire the skills needed to succeed in college or at work. Seniors are excited about their projects — and are eager to present them for review to a panel of educators, students and community members. The day will begin at noon with an overview and panel training in the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please contact Susie Warriner (858) 748-0245, extension 5105 before Friday, May 11. Please leave your name, phone number and e-mail address and we will contact you with additional information. I hope that you can join us on May 25.
Sincerely,
Scott Fisher
